Louisville has always been home for Richard Breen. A fifth generation Louisvillian, Richard is the oldest of four boys. Richard has served others his entire career. Committed to public service as a duty, Richard has always given back to the Louisville community that he loves.
Richard and his wife Bonnie, a Registered Nurse, have been married for over 40 years and are the proud parents of three children and four grandchildren. He is active in church and school philanthropies. Richard served on the Boards of St. Xavier High School, Ursuline Campus Schools, and Hand in Hand Ministries. Richard has been active in other civic and nonprofit leadership and local government. Richard served eight years as Mayor of the City of Glenview.
After graduating from St. Xavier High School at age 16, Richard graduated from Vanderbilt University then University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law. Before his legal career, Richard proudly served as a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy, wearing Badge number 518. Richard is the third person in his family to serve in the Sheriff’s Department. His great uncle Allen Mattingly was a deputy, and his nephew Allen Hamilton was the Jefferson County Sheriff for 4 years.
Committed to hard work with a positive attitude, Richard has worked in many other jobs. Among others, he worked for the City of Louisville; as a hod carrier for bricklayers; construction; an ice-cream scooper at Baskin Robbins; manager at Mr. Gatti’s Pizza; landscaper at Evergreen Nursery; and even as a campus tour guide.
Richard quickly made partner at the oldest personal injury law firm in Louisville. Then in 1993 he founded Richard Breen Law Offices, PSC. Richard represents his clients with steady, reliable, and honest counsel. Richard built a specialty practice helping families and individuals from every walk of life who were injured or when their loved ones were killed. He fights for his clients against big corporations and wrongdoers like drunk and drugged drivers who shatter families. One of his proudest moments as a lawyer and father was when his son Connor joined his law office.
Representing thousands of clients over the years, Richard has earned a reputation as a fearless and resolute advocate demonstrating uncommon resolve as he fights for justice at every level of Kentucky’s court system. This includes numerous wins before the Kentucky Supreme Court. The law profession honored Richard with two appointments to the Kentucky Supreme Court to sit as a special justice.
As a Sheriff’s Deputy, attorney, mayor, community volunteer, and education advocate, Richard has proudly and responsibly served our community. And now, with a commitment to service, integrity and security, Richard hopes to continue serving Louisville as the next Sheriff of Jefferson County.
